4 Home Remodel Tips for a Perfect Staycation

August 4, 2020 | Modified: August 5, 2020

We’re all spending more and more time at home, yet many of us are longing for the relaxation of a vacation destination. Wouldn’t it be great to have that vacation resort feel right in your own home? With these 4 home remodel tips, you can give your home a relaxing staycation resort vibe.

1 Remodel your bedroom for a good night’s sleep

What’s one of the best things about vacation? A big comfy bed that provides you with a perfect night’s sleep. How would you like to have that well-rested, rejuvenated feeling every day right at home? You can accomplish that by investing in a good mattress, comfortable bedding, and a thick quality comforter. Start your bedroom remodel by de-cluttering. Nothing is more stressful than a bedroom full of clutter. Repaint the space using calming subtle colors and incorporate a pop of brighter color with your room accents. Add some soft lighting and create a comfortable seating area near a window for reading or relaxing. Speaking of windows. It’s not easy to sleep when the morning sunlight comes streaming in at 6 am. You may want to consider blackout window coverings that can close to block out the sunlight and allow you to get more sleep when you need it. Is your bedroom furniture a bit outdated? You can always paint or refinish it for a fresh updated look on a shoestring budget. With a little home improvement investment, your bedroom can be your own peaceful refuge.

2 Transform your bathroom into a tranquil spa

Your bathroom may only need a minor facelift to transport you into a calm and relaxed state.  First on your list, just like your bedroom, should be to completely declutter your bathroom. You know what we mean, get rid of the chaos of unused products and other clutter. Take advantage of your storage space and keep things that aren’t used every day out of sight. You want your bathroom to have a fresh clean feel. After you’ve decluttered, grab your brush and roller and add a fresh coat of paint using natural earthy colors.  Next, incorporate controlled lighting. When you’re soaking in a relaxing tub, the last thing you want is the distraction of bright lights. You’ll want to purchase and install lighting with dimmers for more control. Swap out your old showerhead for a rain shower head and add some bling with shiny new fixtures. Soothing candles and green plants can enhance the look and feel of your new bathroom. Indoor houseplants are a great way to create a Zen atmosphere. Invest in a plush comfy robe and some large luxurious towels as well. Display things in a more eye-appealing manner, such as a wicker basket for hand towels, a glass jar for cotton balls and Q-tips, and a great shower caddy. Finally, set the mood with music. Invest in a speaker, so you can play soothing music to help you relax.

3 Fire up some outdoor fun with a fire pit

Adding a fire pit to your deck or backyard space can provide you with 4-seasons of fun. A beautifully designed stone fire pit can be the centerpiece of any outdoor area. It’s a great place to have friends and family gather around in cozy chairs to relax and roast marshmallows on warm summer nights or to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate to celebrate the first snowfall. A fire pit is an ideal place to unwind as you watch flickering flames. You’ll find it to be a worthwhile investment you will use year-round.

4 Create an outdoor sanctuary

Don’t stop at a fire pit when it comes to enhancing your outdoor areas. Budget in a relaxing outdoor seating and dining area. Dining alfresco while on vacation can seem like a luxury, but with a little planning, you can create your own outdoor luxury right at home. You can accomplish this anywhere, on a porch, a deck, or an area of your yard. Invest in some quality outdoor furniture that can hold up to the elements. Add a spark of fun with colorful cozy pillows and interesting hanging lights. Add even more color with large umbrellas for shade. If you really want to weatherproof your outdoor seating area, consider a canopy or a beautifully designed gazebo. Dress it up with seasonal flowers, plants and plenty of candles for evenings spent lounging outside. Add an outdoor freestanding water fountain to enjoy the soothing sounds of the trickling water while you relax or dine. If you think this area will only be enjoyed during the dog days of summer, think again. Your family and friends will love chilling in this cozy space for many months of the year.
