WEST CHESTER, PA – JULY 16, 2021 – Benchmark Federal Credit Union is proud to announce that it has been named Business of the Year by the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce and will be celebrated at GWCC’s 2021 Annual Banquet on September 30th at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern.

The 2020 Business of the Year Award, sponsored by West Chester University, will be presented to Benchmark President and CEO Daniel J. Machon, Jr. for Benchmark’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to supporting the communities it serves.

“As a financial institution that is owned and operated by our members, it is particularly meaningful to be chosen by our fellow chamber members based on our work in the community,” says Benchmark Federal Credit Union President and CEO Daniel J. Machon, Jr.

Additional honorees include West Chester Food Cupboard, which will be awarded 2020 Community Service Organization for its focus on providing a variety of fresh and nonperishable healthy food to those in need. The 2020 Citizens of the Year award will go to Patricia Loew and her late husband Jack Loew for their long history of dedication to helping the West Chester community.

“We are excited to celebrate these very deserving winners at the 2021 Annual Banquet,” said Katie Walker, President of the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce. “Each of our winners has proven their heart and dedication to making the greater West Chester region a great place to live and work, especially through the challenges faced by so many this past year, and we are pleased to honor them for their services.”

As the only federal credit union to exclusively serve Chester County, Benchmark Federal Credit Union supports more than 20 community events and organizations each year, including unflagging corporate sponsorship during the pandemic of the Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference and Chester County Futures. In addition, more teachers and students enjoyed Benchmark’s free, award-winning financial literacy curriculum in 2020-2021 than in the past 5 years combined. The virtual learning platform proved to be a valuable resource during the pandemic in more than 60 public, private, and parochial schools; as well as for stay-at-home students across Chester County. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and its shutdowns, Benchmark Federal Credit Union has launched several programs to support small businesses and nonprofits, including up to $1million in interest-free loans for Chester County businesses through the Benchmark Cares Loan Program.
